On the other front of the main hearing slated for 4 Aug 2016, no information is forthcoming as to the progress in terms of the Orders passed by the court on 12 July. On the Petition filed by Hyderabad, Notice was issued on 1 June to LIC & UOI to file Counters within three weeks. This was modified with ten days time granted on 12 July. But there was no response till date.

In the case of Chandigarh Petitioners also, ball is in LIC's court for filing the Counter, the Petitioners' Advocate having complied with the Court's order dated 12 July.

In the case of AIIPA, possibly the Petitioners would have done what they were required to do - just serve a copy on LIC & UOI and the Counter Affidavit from LIC is due.

As far as the other two Original Petitioners are concerned, LIC was not put on Notice on 12 July. They would have possibly done what they were directed to do by the Court on 12th (relatively simple compliance) but that would become official on record only on 4 Aug.

In the above factual background scenario, one can expect some high drama on 4th August while taking stock of action taken/not taken by the different Petitioners/LIC & UOI, and nothing more, in the direction of any serious arguments for the hearing to commence. Court is sure to take a stand on the timeline prescribed by the Supreme Court and spell out its mind. Most unfortunate part of the depressing state of affairs, is that some of the Petitioners are on the wrong side of the case handling and are not in a position to put LIC in the dock for the avoidable delay. 'Self Goals' which we are familiar with in the past, are too mild a description of the state of things now. Accurate description of it will be unpleasant and unpalatable.

Hyderabad Association is striving every nerve to do its best and bring the much needed hope to the Pensioner Community.
